Race and Racialization

• Race is a biological construct.
  • Like their biology changes their race and intelligence and crime, etc.
• Race was used to justify slavery and segregation.
• Race was in relation to whiteness.
• Race categories in terms of biology is discredited.
• Race as a social construct has a big impact on how we function as a society.
• Racialization can ascribe traits to people in a race.
  • Example: Black people and hellcats
• Race contributes to the same hierarchies currently present.
