Law of segregation in genetics
-
Two alleles from one gene segregate during Meiosis. One gamete only has one allele.
- When Meiosis happens, the alleles from the Homologus Chromosomes split and end up only having one allele per gamete.
-
Dominant Traits
- Always appear when the individual has it
- If someone has a dominant trait. They will show it in their phenotype.
- If someone has dominant traits, will they show in their phenotype? ;; Yes
-
Recessive Traits
-
Only appear when the individual has 2 alleles for it.
-
Only appears when someone has only thoses alleles.
-
If someone has 2 recessive trait, will they show in their phenotype? ;; No
-
If someone has 1 recessive trait, will they show in their phenotype? ;; Yes
-
-
How they segregate
- Dominant gene in germ cell
- Recessive gene in germ cell
- Splits into 4 Gametes
