How to Name Oxyacids
Notes
Oxygen is the top (Number of Oxygen). Hydrogen is the left (Number of hydrogen).

- If you have one less oxygen, it's an -ous acid not -ic. The ion becomes an -ite ion.
- If you have two less oxygen, it's an hypo-ous acid. The ion would be hypo-ite.
- If you have one more oxygen, it's a per-ic acid. The ion would be per-ate ion.
Charges
- Amount of hydrogen (each hydrogen is +1), the other part of the compound is the opposite.
Ions
- If Hydrogen goes away, an ic acid turns into ate.
